Development of Growing Healthy (Reproducing) Corps Network

The Australia Southern Territory launched the Growing Healthy Corps Network as a pilot in October 2005. The concept was fully endorsed by all Divisional Leaders and Cabinet Members following a series of workshops with the Wider Cabinet of the Territory. It is seen as an important strategy to reverse the decline in attendance and church life in the Salvation Army's Southern Territory. This reverse in attendances and growth in our Corps will lead to growing healthy Corps, outward focused, reproducing and serving their local communities. We do not want to see our Corps bigger for the sake of size - but so we can be effective in delivering the mission intentions of our Territory:

  • Transforming Lives
  • Caring for People
  • Making Disciples
  • Reforming Society

There are 2 significant components for the Growing Healthy Corps Network:

            1. Cluster meetings
            2. Consultations

Cluster meetings

Pilots have been set up and are operating in all divisions and there is a cluster for Chinese speaking officers. The cluster model sees Officers meeting together in the morning for intentional teaching on Leadership and Corps Health matters, followed by a fellowship lunch, and in the afternoon a time of personal devotion and reflection.

Consultations

Corps Consultations are an important component of the Growing Healthy Corps Network. To date consultations have been held at the Werribee, Warrnambool, Golden Grove, Freeway, Marion, Box Hill and Norwood Corps. Consultations are planned for the Morley and Altona Corps in the new year (2009) with further consultations being held later in the year.  The feedback from these consultations has been extremely positive. They are challenging, and require serious commitment from the Corps Officers, the corps leadership team, and the corporate body of the corps.

It is my goal that these pages on the GHC website will be a resource for us all as we deliver the mission of The Salvation Army. Please contact me with any feedback.
