The Melbourne Veteran’s Band is a group of dedicated musicians committed to spreading the Gospel message through the medium of sanctified music under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Mission Statement:

The Melbourne Veteran’s Band is a group of dedicated musicians committed to spreading the Gospel message through the medium of sanctified music under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Specifically the aims of the band are:

  • To play and sing music which enables people to consider the love and grace of God, the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, and the claims of God on their lives.
     
  • To play and sing various types of music which are in harmony with the stated aims of The Salvation Army and can be helpful in communicating with and building bridges to those who may be unfamiliar with the things of God and the way of salvation.
     
  • To make the most of every opportunity for interactive communication with our listeners, during and after a program, particularly where we have the opportunity to serve in places not normally visited by Salvation Army Bands.
     
  • To maintain and foster good fellowship and commitment among the members of the band in order to promote caring, encouragement and spiritual growth, as befits an active people of faith.
     
  • To present ourselves well at all times, particularly when on duty, in a way that will enable people to observe each member as a good role model of a Salvation Army bandsman and even more importantly, as a good servant of Jesus Christ.

History:

The Melbourne Veteran’s Band was formed in 1982 to provide music for a Congress Senior Citizen’s Rally. The band, under the baton of Envoy Dick Collett, proved to be so popular that it continued in its own right. Then, when Dick retired in 2000, following a period of nineteen years of dedicated leadership, Noel Jones was appointed Bandmaster.

The band has a very full schedule of engagements throughout each year and performs regularly at special events and Salvation Army gatherings, as well as at churches, senior citizens’ clubs, retirement villages and homes, and other venues, The band currently consists of a group of about fifty committed Salvationist musicians whose average age is in excess of seventy years.
