Officership is a divine vocation.
It blossoms out of a prayerful, conscious and self sacrificing response which leads the person in obediant answer to the call of God. In total surrender to accept His will for their life and enter into a faithful and living covenant which transforms their life into a powerful, dynamic testament to God's love.
What does the typical officer look like?
Officers can come from such diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences that it is impossible to describe a typical officer. What all have in common however is deep and abiding faith in God, a heart overflowing with the compassion of Christ and a life moved by the power of the Holy Spirit.
What does an officer do?
Officers may "do" many things..
An officer may...
Declare the good news of the Lord and dedicate a child on Sunday,
Pay the accounts and balance the Corps books on Monday,
Dance and sing with play group toddlers on Tuesday,
Hold the hand of the elderly in quiet prayer on Wednesday,
Laugh with and encourage discipleship of a youth group on Thursday,
Preside over a funeral and comfort the grieving on Friday,
Put together a challenging and inspiring meeting complete with multimedia on Saturday
Officers may also find they are called to missionary service.. or to fly planes as a travelling padre.. to provide ethical, legal or administrative services and many many other things..
Being an officer is not so much about what you do as why and the answer to why is always
"Because God calls me !"
