Your commission
First and foremost, The Salvation Army gives the leadership of the movement to its officers. Officers are commissioned to be leaders.
Leadership is given to people who have no contractual tie to The Salvation Army, who have no legally binding relationship to The Salvation Army at all, and whose first allegiance is given to God.
Your covenant is with God, not with The Salvation Army.
When a brand new officer is commissioned, The Salvation Army’s three-fold mission to save souls, grow saints, and serve suffering humanity in Christ’s name becomes their personal mission. It is a calling.
To be in covenant with God and to hold the sacred stewardship of The Salvation Army in trust with your life is an amazing and awesome calling.
