The Salvation Army Supports Waterloo Redevelopment
17 December 2015
The Salvation Army welcomes the announcement of the New South Wales State Government of its decision to build the new Sydney Metro station at Waterloo while at the same time redeveloping the area which for years has been neglected by successive State governments.
With housing affordability within Sydney increasingly out of the reach of ordinary citizens, The Salvation Army strongly supports the dramatic increase of housing stock in Waterloo as well as the announcement by the government that one third will be reserved for social and affordable housing.
Spokesperson for The Salvation Army, Major Bruce Harmer, says while many of the residents of the Waterloo housing estate might be uneasy about what has been announced.
“Change is never easy,” Major Harmer said.
“However, we do believe that what has been announced by the government is broadly good for Sydney and also quite positive for the residents in the area who quite frankly have been ignored over the years by successive governments of both persuasions. We are so happy that we have a State Government which has vision and who has the needs of the community at heart.”
