Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice
16 October 2023
The referendum result does not dissolve The Salvation Army's commitment to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. We remain committed to reconciliation, unity and equity. We will continue to advocate, support and work to make a real difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. First Nations people are over-represented in almost every service The Salvation Army operates and much of this is due to structural and entrenched injustice.
We understand this is a very difficult time for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including our valued staff. The Salvation Army is committed to living a YES future, despite this result. We stand with you - and we will not stop walking alongside you to achieve positive change and outcomes.
