Commencement of Case Study 49

The Salvation Army will appear at a public hearing before the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse which will commence on 5 December 2016.
The hearing will inquire into the current policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in relation to child protection and child-safety standards, including responding to allegations of child sexual abuse.
The scope and purpose of the public hearing is to inquire into:

• The current policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in relation to child protection and child-safe standards, including responding to allegations of child sexual abuse.

• Factors that may have contributed to the occurrence of child sexual abuse at The Salvation Army.

• Factors that may have affected the institutional response of The Salvation Army to child sexual abuse.

• The response of The Salvation Army to relevant case study report (s) and other Royal Commission reports.

• Any related matters.

 The Salvation Army would like to again offer its sincerest apologies to survivors, their families and anyone who has suffered from our past failures. We are deeply sorry for the profound impact this abuse and trauma has had on their lives. We also acknowledge we have broken the trust placed in us, which we must now seek to rebuild.

Since the Royal Commission hearings in 2014 & 2015, The Salvation Army has implemented significant changes to our protection policies and procedures for vulnerable people. This is to ensure the safety of children and all vulnerable people remains our highest priority.
