Be A Souperhero challenge changes lives one bowl of soup at a time
The Salvation Army is calling upon compassionate Australians to Be A Souperhero this July and take on the challenge of replacing every meal with soup (from Monday 25 July to Sunday 31 July) to raise much needed funds for Aussies in need.
Be A Souperhero will strive to raise $100,000 to help struggling Aussie families living on less than $17.00 per day.* Souperheroes will seek the support of family and friends to donate to their challenge and all funds raised will go directly to Salvos community service programs.
Australia’s much loved Television Chef, and acclaimed Food Author, Fast Ed (Ed Halmagyi) will take part in this year's challenge and will be whipping up special soup recipes that are suitable for all mealtimes - even breakfast!
“Soup is the unsung hero for families who are just trying to make ends meet. It’s a cheap, nutritious meal, and one batch of soup can feed a family for a few days. I’m really excited to be involved in Be A
Souperhero and help those who have fallen on hard times.
Throughout the challenge, join me and become a
Souperhero too… don’t worry I’ll create delicious soups that our fellow heroes can eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Ed said.
The Salvation Army’s Territorial Public Relations Secretary, Major Paul Hateley, was thrilled to have Ed’s support and encouraged others to follow suit and sign up to Be A Souperhero.
“It’s easy to take for granted basic privileges like mealtimes however for many people in our local community, putting food on the table can be a real struggle. Those experiencing financial stress need to look for ways to save money and often that impacts their food options and for these people, soup can be a hero.
“Be A
Souperhero will make a real difference to the lives of others, so we encourage Australians to give it a go and commit to eating soup for a week,” Major Hateley said.
Be A Souperhero is open to people of all ages and families with children are encouraged to substitute one meal a day with soup during the week. Participants will set up their own online profile and family and friends can show their support by donating online.
