Minister helps Salvos wrap up Christmas

Federal Minister for Social Services The Hon Kevin Andrews MP visited Preston Corps in Melbourne to wrap hampers that will be distributed to people in need this Christmas through Salvation Army emergency relief centres. 

With Christmas less than a week away, Minister Andrews assisted staff and volunteers at the centre to put together the gifts and hampers that will help to brighten Christmas for many individuals and families in the area.  

Food and material donations were collected by local primary school students in the area and then donated to the local corps.  This Christmas season The Salvation Army will assist around 300,000 people. 

“Christmas is a hard time for people doing it tough,” says The Salvation Army’s Dr Bruce Redman. 
“One in two Salvation Army clients will not be able to afford gifts for family members and friends this Christmas.” 

In December The Salvation Army assist three times more people compared to any other month. On Christmas day, 8000 people will share in a meal at Salvation Army centres across the country.
