SA bushfire update
25 November 2015
Catastrophic fire conditions in Barossa and the mid-north of South Australia have seen Salvation Army Emergency Services teams stretched.
Currently based at the staging area at Nuriootpa Oval in the Barossa, the Salvos are feeding over 200 Firefighters and other Emergency Services personnel who are fighting the fast moving fire.
The blaze has scorched more than 85,000 hectares. While it is too early to quantify final losses, at least two people have died, 16 homes have been lost and many livestock have perished.
“This has been a devastating few hours for large parts of the state,” said South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill. “Unfortunately there is some time to go until we have fire fronts under control.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals and families in the greater area.
Further information will be shared as it comes to hand.
Update: 27th November 2015
While 75% of the fires blazing in South Australia have now been controlled, at least 35 homes have been destroyed. 300 firefighters have travelled from Victoria to provide welcome relief to SA’s stretched Country Fire Service.
The Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) continue to fuel the efforts of emergency personnel, providing hundreds meals and refreshments around the clock. A special thanks to 20 community volunteers who bolstered the SAES by helping make more than 600 additional meals for firefighters to take into the field, and to Holco for donating meat for last night’s dinner.
Anyone who has suffered the loss of a home or other significant damage is urged to contact The Salvation Army’s Major Darren Cox for support on 0457 600 061.
Please help by donating critical funds to assist our Emergency Services teams provide practical assistance to those affected.
