Salvos expands community support in Gippsland

Salvation Army Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd officially opened a new building for the Leongatha Salvation Army and GippsCare Community Support Service on Saturday 17th May.
The new building will house a number of community services including homelessness, domestic violence, youth and family support and emergency relief.
“The main advantage of the new building is that people will be able to access all that the Salvos do in the one place,” said Captain Martyn Scrimshaw from Leongatha Salvation Army.
“There will also be future opportunities for the church and GippsCare to work together on developing new and exciting programs to assist those in need in our community.”
The new building will enable other agencies to partner with the Salvos to provide a whole of community response to disadvantage in the Gippsland region.
“We often work with other agencies to assist vulnerable people in the community – financial counsellors, mental health professionals – it’s more effective when we can work together with everyone,” said Captain Scrimshaw.
Other guests at the opening included Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent and South Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Jim Fawcett.
The Salvation Army operates 74 programs across Eastern Victoria including Homeless Services, Family Counselling and Youth Services.
