Salvos Funerals expands to Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula

The Salvation Army is expanding its well-regarded funeral services into Victoria, five years after it first launched in New South Wales.
Salvos Funerals began in 2017, operating in Sydney and on the New South Wales Central Coast, and since that time has conducted more than 1500 funerals.
Proceeds from Salvos Funerals help fund the vital frontline mission of The Salvation Army across Australia.
“By choosing Salvos Funerals, you will not only receive a service full of compassion, but you will also contribute to the incredible work of The Salvation Army’s 2000 services across Australia, helping people in need every day,” said Salvos Funerals Sector Advisor, Marc Allison, who is overseeing the expansion into Melbourne.
The new service, operating across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, is the next step in what is planned to be a national expansion.
“At Salvos Funerals we really care about the people we support. As part of The Salvation Army, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond in peoples’ time of need, giving them transparent advice and practical support,” said Marc.
The name Allison is synonymous with funerals in Melbourne, with a 160-year-strong history in the sector, and Marc has devoted himself to the funeral sector full-time for 13 years.
In that time, he has learnt much about the process of grief and the importance of how a funeral service helps in adjusting to life without a loved one.
“As an organisation that is Christ-centred and devoted to caring for people at their point of need, offering funeral services was a logical progression for The Salvation Army,” Marc explained.
“Funerals help us to pause and reflect on who and what we have lost. They bring people together to grieve, comfort one another and find hope. At Salvos funerals, we ensure our services reflect genuine compassion to everyone we help. We welcome and assist those with specific cultural, religious and non-religious requirements, without discrimination.”
The expansion into the Greater Melbourne area provides further opportunities to connect with and support the community, while generating funds to maintain vital Salvos services.
“Rarely are people more vulnerable than when a loved one has passed away,” Marc added.
“But sadly, some in the funeral industry can be largely transactional, lacking in compassion to those in grief. By its very nature, Salvos Funerals sets itself apart from such practices to provide the holistic care The Salvation Army is well-known for.”
As well as organising your funeral, The Salvation Army can also provide pastoral follow up by a Salvos Officer and support via Salvos Stores, Moneycare and Doorways among other services.
Salvos Funerals also provides prepaid funerals.
