The Salvation Army launches bushfire appeal

The Salvation Army is asking Australians to support people experiencing the devastation of bushfires in Perth. Tragically there has been one loss of life. Forty four homes have been destroyed, with more likely to be confirmed.

The Sunday Times and Channel 9 are kicking off The Salvation Army’s Bushfire Appeal with a combined $20,000 gift. Mundaring Community Bank® Branch of Bendigo Bank has donated $10,000. The Salvation Army is asking for financial donations to assist with meeting the needs of the community in a localised response.

Warren Palmer, spokesperson for The Salvation Army said “Initially our response is about crisis management and we will work with the Department of Child Protection and Family Support to assist with immediate needs. We will also support longer term recovery with any support into the future. Through financial gifts to our Appeal, The Salvation Army can provide meaningful and targeted support to assist with this long path that many will have to travel.”

To date over 100 volunteers have provided over 5,000 meals to fire fighters at over six separate fire locations across Perth. Chaplains are also providing emotional support to those struggling through this disaster.

The Salvation Army is encouraging financial donations only due to the logistical challenges of immediate material aid.  The Salvation Army is  grateful for the wonderful and generous support of the community that helps bring comfort and support to those in need.

Financial donations can be made by calling 13 72 58 (13 SALVOS) or online. Donations can also be made through any Bendigo Bank branch.
