Salvation Army Emergency Services

The Salvation Army maintains an active Salvation Army Emergency Services team in Albury, ready to respond to any incidents.

In 2001, the team was called to a siege in the area. The Salvation Army’s Pipeline magazine reported that police asked The Salvation Army for assistance to feed emergency workers at the scene. So at 11:15 pm, the Captains (Peter and Kaye Townsend) set up the Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) trailer, stocked with cakes, muffins, and biscuits as well as hot and cold drinks. At around 5am the next morning, the Townsends began serving hot food until the siege ended at 9am.

It was only five days later when the Albury SAES team was activated again, this time to feed searchers looking for two people lost in the Snowy Mountains near Khancoban.
