Cowra's Best - Captain Gennis
The Salvation Army in Cowra has produced its fair share of outstanding Salvationists.
Cowra’s first officer, Captain Gennis, was a newspaper compositor by trade. Historian Ken Sanz, in his book Cargo Galley Swamp Nags Head and Yahoo – The beginnings of The Salvation Army in the mining towns of the central west of NSW, writes: When income left him without any allowance he was offered occasional work with J.C Ryall, proprietor of The Cowra Free Press. He did not always accept this work as he refused to set type if the matter was not of a religious nature!
