It started in Narrandera

The Salvation Army work in Leeton was started by a group of intrepid Salvos from nearby Narrandera, who wanted to see the work of the Army expand throughout the district. The original hall in Leeton was located behind the old steelworks and was opened on 13 December 1915, with The Salvation Army’s Ensign Greyson oversighting the work from Narrandera. Leeton became a Salvation Army corps (church) in its own right in July 1916, with the first officers appointed Captain Francis Harris and Lieutenant Malcolm. The Salvation Army in Narrandera has since closed its doors, however a Family Store in the town remains.
