Putting smiles back on people's faces

The Salvation Army in Queanbeyan runs a unique program to help people on low incomes receive urgently needed dental work. The Salvation Army Dental Support Program is run in conjunction with ACT Health and Communities at Work, as well as dental health experts who provide services for free. Treatments are done for a very small financial contribution that can be paid off, but only after clients have attended The Salvation Army Moneycare financial counselling service. One of its clients, Nicole, says she can’t thank the Salvos enough after getting her teeth fixed a few years ago: I couldn’t go out in public, I was covering my mouth, talking behind my hand. When volunteer dentist Colin went out of his way to get me in quickly and get me to a point where I felt I could smile again ... that was life-changing.
