Early opposition

The first entry in the Temora Corps (church) history book, from 128 years ago, reads: first meeting of The Salvation Army in Temora, rotten fruit hurled at congregation. It seems The Salvation Army in Temora has had a colourful past! Early opposition to The Salvation Army is well documented throughout Australia. Its loud and colourful marches through the main streets of cities and towns attracted the cheers – and jeers – of many a passer-by. In some municipalities, Salvationists were thrown into jail for breaching council by-laws against street marches!
