In times of need
It’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need. The Murrumbidgee River has experienced several flooding incidents over the years and The Salvation Army, despite being flooded itself at times, was always on hand to help. In 1932, the Wagga Salvation Army history book reads: The CO [Corps Officer] co-operated with the Police & Social Service Officers. Much clothing was gathered and distributed to needy families. The band accompanied the Corps Officer to the Show Ground Camp, and a Sunday afternoon musical meeting was held in the Kyeamba Smith Hall for the evacuees housed there. Colonel Dowdic, the commanding officer from the nearby Kapooka military base, expressed deep appreciation. Today, the Wagga Salvation Army has a Salvation Army Emergency Services team which is trained and ready to respond in times of flood or other emergencies.
