The early days

The Salvation Army began in Wagga on Saturday 6 March 1886, under founding officers Captain Bryant and Lieutenant Joseph Clarke, in a large empty store that was furnished with lighting and seating by a local Wagga resident, Mr John Castle. Soon after, The Salvation Army built a citadel and young people’s hall in Morrow Street (pictured). In 1988, a new Salvation Army building was opened on the Edward Street site where it still stands.
