Bells Creek Beginnings

The Salvation Army’s work in the Bowen area was centred on Bells Creek at the start of the 20th century. The first officers were Captain Edith Berry and Lieutenant Annie Murray who held meetings in the School of Arts in Herbert Street. In 1927 a hall was brought from Mount Morgan and situated in the town of Bowen on the corner of Poole and Gregory Streets. Eventually all work was consolidated at that spot with a new citadel being opened in November 1985.
