Our home in Charters Towers

Charters Towers hallSuch was the reputation and rapid growth of The Salvation Army, that in the 1890s Commissioner T.B Coombs travelled from Melbourne to lay the foundation for The Salvation Army’s first citadel, located on Hodgkinson Street. Commissioner Coombs used a sword to cut a two-metre pastie (now that’s a pie!) at a banquet held in his honour. The citadel was demolished in 1960 and replace by a much smaller one in the same location.
