In times of need

It’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need.

When flooding engulfed Emerald in 2011, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Services team swung into action, feeding hundreds at the evacuation centre and providing emergency assistance.

During the clean-up phase, teams of Salvationists door-knocked the streets of Emerald, offering food vouches to families who had lost most or all of their possessions in the floods. Leilani Smiler (pictured right) and her family lost a lot of furniture in the floods and was grateful for the assistance: The Salvation Army was right there in the forefront at the right time, being able to give people assistance where it was needed.
