A place for recovery
The Salvation Army Mount Isa Recovery Services (MIRS, pictured right) offers local people with addiction issues access to The Salvation Army’s award-winning Bridge Program for recovery. MIRS caters for men and women, including couples, and also allows children to live with parents or carers who are clients.
The participants come from diverse locations including Mornington Island, the Mt Isa region and the Northern Territory.
Recently, The Salvation Army expanded its recovery services in the region and opened, in partnership with Mt Isa Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (Gidgee Healing), the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service, which offers both a residential program for up to 20 clients with substance abuse issues, and also provides non-residential well-being programs for the community and region.
The focus on holistic health includes programs in areas such as mental health, suicide prevention, life skills and health and nutrition.
