People finding freedom

From its early days when The Salvation Army band used to march down local streets, to today when Salvos can be found ministering in the courthouse, running local playgroups or teaching budgeting skills; one thing has remained the same – The Salvation Army is about people finding freedom. More than 100 years ago, released prisoners found it through the offer of free job-training on The Salvation Army’s Prison Gate farm, and homeless women found freedom from the fear of the streets at Ebenezer Rescue Home. Not all that long ago our current Family Store manager, Stephen Barrott, found freedom through Jesus after coming into contact with the Salvos. He was sitting in the gutter of George Street, just outside our Family Store (which was located there at the time) and local Salvationists invited him to come along to church on Sunday. Steve started to attend Salvation Army services regularly, became a volunteer at the Family Store and is now the manager! Steve has a powerful testimony of how God, through the work of The Salvation Army, helped him to find freedom. And there are many, many more great freedom stories to share.
