Expansion to Springwood

In 1960, Springwood Salvation Army began as an ‘outpost’ of the Penrith Salvation Army, with meetings held by Penrith officers in theLt David Knight at Springwood Salvation Army opening School of Arts, Springwood. Home League (A Salvation Army’s women’s group) began a year later and, for a brief time, The Salvation Army ran a thrift shop at the temporary site as well. Outreach involved visitation by Salvationists to nearby hospitals and also Emu Plain Training Farm. When the School of Arts building was demolished, meetings were held at the Red Cross centre from 1966. In 1978, the Outpost was elevated to Salvation Army ‘corps’ (church) status, led by Lieutenant David Knight. In 1979, The Salvation Army in Springwood took up residence in the old Methodist church building in the centre of town and a purpose-built church was opened at the current Faulconbridge site in 1990.
