On a shoestring

With hardly any money, the Campbelltown Salvos creatively used what they had. A 1971 entry in the Campbelltown Corps (church) history book states: Our present Young People’s Hall was originally built and used at Liverpool, and for many years served as the Young People’s Hall at Bankstown. Hard work on the part of Lieutenant Lingard and comrades … has made it possible for the building shell to be an acceptable centre for worship – this was done in a fortnight of intense work. Still, despite the make-shift facilities, The Salvation Army in Campbelltown thrived, with new soldiers sworn in regularly.
