Our beginnings

During its early days, The Salvation Army in Dural had a variety of meeting places – people’s lounge rooms, and, at one stage, a “chook shed”!

In 1986, The Salvation Army purchased a small Catholic chapel on six acres of land and the Dural Salvation Army was officially created by the merging of the Galston and Thornleigh centres.

Its first officers were Lieutenants Colin and Barbara Brownhill. The small building was badly vandalised in September 1986, with every window smashed. Following the repairs, The Salvation Army’s Lieutenant Colin Brownhill slept in the building for a period of time to make sure it wasn’t broken into again. In 1992, a new complex was built and opened at the current site.
