Fairfield Greats - The Little Army Lady
Another Fairfield “Great” was Salvation Army local treasurer L. Hooper. Known as “The Little Army Lady” in Fairfield, Mrs Hooper held the position of treasurer at the Fairfield Salvation Army for 12 years, having been a member of the corps (church) from its inception. She spent countless hours collecting in Fairfield for The Salvation Army, and ministering to locals. Upon retiring in 1951 due to ill-health, Mrs Hooper received accolades from Salvation Army hierarchy, including Commissioner Joshua James. Her Fairfield comrades wrote a letter of thanks, saying: As you come to the conclusion in the work you have loved and found so much joy in doing, you will be much blessed and comforted in the knowledge that God has blessed your labours with good success and that your untiring efforts have done much to establish the Army work at Fairfield ... and you have made many lasting friends in your contacts with all classes of people throughout Fairfield and the surrounding districts.
