The Salvation Army’s War Cry, 24 July 1890:
It has been raining here since last February with hardly any intermission, but amidst the mud and cold are a number of comrades [who] march out night after night, holding up Christ to those who need Him so much. There are also comrades here who could attend the open-airs, but do not on account of having little of Christ's Christianity. Are you one of those, eh? God, saints and sinners know who are the defaulting ones. We are praying they will soon do right. La Grippe has got hold of a lot of willing workers, but the thoughts of Commissioner and staff being present during the first few days in July seems to encourage them to hope that they will speedily get well. Two officers are to be married on July 4th. Three precious souls have come to Jesus since the first epistle. And now, will all our War Cry customers please pay up arrears, as we need the money, and do not forget Commissioner's visit, block-laying, tea, swearing in, and wedding &c. - Bonuspuer
