A satellite ministry

In the early days, The Salvation Army in the Hawkesbury area was based around the Windsor Corps (church), with various “outpost” churches which were operated by dedicated Salvationists, or the Windsor Salvation Army officer. In the 1920s, Windsor had outposts in Richmond, Sackville, Currency Creek, Riverstone, Maraylya, Schofields, East Kurrajong (formerly Bullridge) and Pitt Town. In 1922, Captain Oliver Smith and Lieutenant Norman Pack took charge of Windsor Corps and a War Cry article states that they wished they were capable of covering the ground more rapidly, for the calls are incessant and the opportunities exceptional. With the introduction of the motor vehicle and travel becoming quicker and easier, these outposts slowly disappeared and 290 George Street, Windsor, became the focal point for The Salvation Army’s ministry in the Hawkesbury.
