In times of need
It’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need. During World War Two, when Lithgow was a potential target for air attack, The Salvation Army purchased a mobile canteen through the generous donations of the local community. The Lithgow Salvation Army history book says that it was equipped with sewing machines and the ladies of the local corps maintained a service of mending and darning for the troops stationed at Marrangaroo [located nearby.] Over the years Lithgow has also come under threat from bushfires and the Lithgow Salvation Army Emergency Services crew has assisted each time, providing meals at evacuation centres, feeding emergency services personnel and caring for all affected.
