The Salvation Army in western Sydney has produced its fair share of outstanding Salvationists. Ashwell Drew, a soldier a Lithgow in the 1950s, felt a calling to assist with the establishment of The Salvation Army in Papua New Guinea. In 1957, he and his family moved from Lithgow to Papua New Guinea to work and support the new movement – or was it perhaps to escape the cold Lithgow winters?
