Expansion

Not content to stay still, the “Liverpool Lancers” expanded The Salvation Army’s reach throughout south-western Sydney. By 1909, it had established an outpost in Hoxton Park. Ten years later, another had been started at St Luke’s Park. In 1936, Fairfield was opened as an outpost of Liverpool by Captain J Townsend and was so successful that it was made a Salvation Army Corps (church) in its own right just four years later. In the 1940s, Liverpool Salvation Army also established outposts at Campbelltown, Hillview, Camden and Ingleburn. Today, The Salvation Army in Greater Liverpool is a vibrant worshipping community, hosting Sunday morning meetings, weekly men’s, women’s, youth and children’s groups and offering a range of different programs and services to the community.
