It began with a phone call

Lieutenants RobertCompared with the worldwide Salvation Army, the Salvos in Narellan is relatively young, celebrating 20 years this October. However, the past 20 years have seen significant changes the lives of people touched by God through The Salvation Army’s work. In early 1995, founding officers, Lieutenants Robert (pictured right) and Leanne Duncan, and a team of committed Salvationists, hit the phones. They cold-called 7500 people who lived in the Narellan area, chatting to them about the prospect of The Salvation Army starting operations in the town, asking their opinion and learning about local needs. From those phone calls, The Salvation Army designed a ministry specific to the Narellan community, gaining approval from the local council to use a factory building for Sunday meetings and redesigning the interior to include a kids space, a worship space, and meeting rooms.
