Caring for our elderly
The Salvation Army’s Rosedurnate Aged Care Plus Centre has a long history in Parkes. Located in Orange Street, Parkes, it was built by Andrew Stewart in about 1908 on six acres of land bought from a Mr Coleman. It was named after Mr Stewart’s home in Bally-Mena, Northern Ireland, and is a family home name going back many generations. The original was a rough stone fortress and their chief rival was the Ross Clan who had laid waste to so many of their dwellings that they built one so strong and secure they felt “Ross-dare-not” attack. Hence the origin of the name “Rosedurnate”. The home was sold about 1929 and had been a private hospital before being purchased by The Salvation Army. Now, Rosedurnate Aged Care Plus Centre is a modern, warm and inviting aged care centre spread across three levels.
