Early opposition

Not everyone was pleased about The Salvation Army’s passionate street-preaching and loud band marches down the main streets of Parkes. The Sydney Mail reported on 4 July 1891 that at the police court on Wednesday a young man named Moulden was fined 20s., and costs, for assaulting a Salvationist at the local barracks. Despite some local opposition, The Salvation Army in Parkes grew, soon opening outposts in Alectown and Welcome. By 1916, further Salvation Army ministries at Peak Hill, Cookandgera and Bogan Gate are mentioned in the corps (church) history book.
