Still in the heart of Penrith
A fire in the Penrith Salvation Army building on the corner of Castlereigh and Tindale Streets in the centre of Penrith in early 1970 led to the building of the current Salvation Army building in Glenmore Park. The Salvation Army still operates from the heart of Penrith, with a Salvation Army Freedom Centre opening in 2013 to provide a one-stop-shop for all community welfare, recovery services, employment and family ministry support services. Twelve services operate through the centre – financial counselling, case management, crisis assistance, The Salvation Army’s Positive Lifestyle Program, Court Chaplaincy, Salvos Legal, The Salvation Army’s No Interest Loans Scheme, drug and alcohol day-case management, Mature Age Worker program, family ministry, Drive 4 Life and the Sport Impact Leadership program. The Salvation Army in Penrith also operates a community house that provides meals and shelter for those in need.
