Always about people finding freedom - Tom Payne
More than 100 years ago Tom Payne found freedom from alcohol after coming into contact with the Salvos. An article in The Salvation Army’s War Cry newspaper in 1895 describes him as having fallen from grace; drink had overcome him, and he had been at the mercy of its allurements. When it seemed evident that all hope for his reclamation was past, God took hold of him, washed him white and planted him upon his feet, and put a new purpose into his life. Tom is a well-known character, and more than one person has given out the opinion that if the Army never did anything else in Bowral but reclaim old Tom Payne, it amply justified its presence.
