In times of need

The Soup Kitchen 1925 It’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need. A soup kitchen was operating as early as 1925 (pictured right), paving the way for The Salvation Army’s numerous food services to those in need today. In 1989, when Newcastle experienced a devastating earthquake, The Salvation Army was there in the thick of it, serving meals to those stranded and the brave and tireless emergency service personnel who scoured through the wreckage, searching for survivors. And just this year, Salvos were on hand to assist in the aftermath of the Newcastle storms.
