Expansion

Not content to rest on their laurels, the early Salvationists quickly moved to take new ground for Christ. By 1890 there are reports of a Salvation Army outpost in nearby Jones Island, Cundletown and Coopernook. Wingham soon followed. At one stage the Taree outposts extended as far as Forster. In 1903, Taree had 16 outposts in its “Circle”, with its officers visiting each systematically to perform meetings and provide spiritual, emotional and practical support to its members and others in the community. Pictured right is the Koppin Yarratt Salvation Army in 1904. After the introduction of the motor vehicle, which allowed easier transport  between communities, The Salvation Army began to consolidate its ministries in the area and today all activities are based at The Salvation Army’s centre in Taree.
