Making Music

Music has always been an integral ministry of The Salvation Army in Taree. A band was formed almost as soon as The Salvation Army was opened in the town and the Town and Country Journal reported on 9 August 1890 that The Salvation Army, led by the Captains Chappel and Spicer, are in full force in Taree. Almost every evening the streets of Taree resound to the sounds of their band and the singing of the members and soldiers of the army marching up to service.

The Taree Salvation Army band is still operational today, playing during Sunday services and also at community events. It has been entertaining the community with Christmas carolling every year since the early 1900s. The Taree Salvation Army continues to hold open-air meetings on special occasions, such as its 125th anniversary celebrations in August 2014.
