Taree Greats - The Drury Family

The Drury Family are very much a part of Taree Salvation Army’s rich history. An article in The Salvation Army newspaper, The War Cry, on 21 June 1913 by Ensign C. Hoepper describes their influence on both the local, and the wider Army:

Several of the descendents of Brother and Sister Drury hold important post in the Taree Corps (church) - vix; - Envoy Nathaniel; Outpost Sargeant-Major William; YPSM (Young People's Sargent Major) Alfred; Treasurer Jonas; and Bandsman Harold. A number of the grandchildren are also Salvationists. One is Cadet Hilda Drury, now in the Training College. The total number of (Salvation Army) soldiers belonging to the famiy is about twenty, irrespective of Juniors. One very pleasing feature about the whole family is that not one individual indulges in intoxicating drinks nor smokes. Brother and Sister Drury are both hale and hearty and have a very keen relish for the various meetings, and whenever possible, are to be found at their post. Hte total descendants number about seventy.
