Expansion

The Ballina Salvation Army has expanded to various towns in the district over the years. In 1924 it is recorded that a troop of Life Saving Guards have been formed at Newrybar through the year … much hard work has been put in by our Comrade and is telling on the lives of the young people. In 1952, a young people’s outpost was also established at Teven and, in 1956, The Salvation Army in Ballina started meetings at the Cabbage Tree Island Aboriginal Centre in the Woodburn district. None of these outposts exist any longer, with all services concentrated at the Ballina Salvation Army centre. Recently, The Salvation Army in Ballina began overseeing work in Byron Bay, where The Salvation Army runs a mission and drop-in centre as well as a Family Store.
