Early beginnings
The Salvation Army “set up shop” in Casino on 31 January 1895, with Captain Alice Thomson in charge. At a time when women in ministry positions was unheard of in most other churches, The Salvation Army in Casino has hosted dozens of female Salvation Army officers. In fact, the first three Salvation Army leaders in Casino were single female officers. Ordaining women was a revolutionary concept at the time so these women were real pioneers and must have experienced an odd look or two around town!
