Early opposition

In the early days The Salvation Army was misunderstood in Inverell and their methods brought them much opposition and ridicule. One Salvation Army history record states: Mr Solomon Woodbury tells that his father, brother, and himself took part in the first march in Inverell, which started near the post office. His father was wearing a white coat, which soon became blackened, and stained with over-ripe eggs. All who took part in that march were similarly treated. Despite the early opposition and road blocks, The Salvation Army in Inverell thrived, with many locals coming to know Christ.
