Our home in Kempsey

The Salvation Army’s first meetings in Kempsey were held in the Oddfellows Hall in Kemp Street. In 1918, land in Belgrave Street was purchased from the Verge Estate and in 1919 both a Senior and a Young People’s hall was opened by the then Divisional Commander, Brigadier Bickerton. Twenty-one years later, the Young People’s hall was dismantled and the materials used to build the Primary room on the back of the Senior Hall. This location served as The Salvation Army’s centre in Kempsey until the present site at Leith Street was purchased and a new hall erected, which was officially opened in June 1994. The Salvation Army in Kempsey offers the community a range of services, including Sunday worship services, welfare support, home league (a women’s group), craft groups and emergency services.
