In times of need
It’s said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence”, of “being there” in times of need. The Salvation Army Emergency Services team in Maclean is often called into action during times of flooding. Using an emergency services trailer, the team provides food and comfort to those affected, as well as the emergency services personnel working during and after the incidents. In 2010, after assisting with the Clarence River flooding incident, The Salvation Army sprung into action again, when Clarence River prawn farmers suffered severe financial hardship due to the flooding affecting the river’s prawn stocks, The Salvation Army was there to help. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Steve Spencer, The Salvation Army supported around 100 families with food, utility bills, medical costs, rent, counselling, retraining information and family days.
