In times of need

stock imageIt’s often said that The Salvation Army has a ministry of “presence” – of being there in times of need. When flooding engulfed Narrabri in 1954 The Salvation Army was on hand to provide immediate emergency assistance and to help with the clean-up afterwards. Captain Elva Banks later wrote: Narrabri was under water, and Karl [her husband, Karl Banks] was taken from our town (Quirindi) and send (under the leadership of Colonel Duck Chong, Divisional Commander) to Narrabri, with our utility filled with clothing, bread etc. which was delivered to people by row boat. Karl was to be away two days, and was gone for a week. After the water subsided, we both returned and cleaned … The Salvation Army in Narrabri maintains a trained Salvation Army Emergency Services team today, ready to respond in times of crisis.
