Caring for those need

The Christian ethos of The Salvation Army gives Salvationists a heart to care for those who are most in need in our community. With Port Macquarie a booming retirement town, The Salvation Army identified a need to care for the elderly in the community, when active retirement was no longer an option for them. A generous bequeath by the late Mr Charles Swanson made it possible to purchase a property on Gray Street in 1965. In 1984, a new 50-bed nursing home was opened on the site. Now called Bethany Aged Care Plus Centre, it is a warm and inviting aged care centre offering all levels of care including short-term respite care and community-care packages.
